This card is one of the ‘Spirits of the Earth’ collection, which celebrates the eight festivals of the Celtic/Pagan year. the artwork and words are by Karen Cater from Hedingham Fair.
Beltane is also known as Mayday and is celebrated on or around the 1st of May. The day is associated with many folklore traditions, including dancing around the Maypole. In this picture, the Maiden unites with the Earth Spirit of the Forest with a kiss. The card is decorated with bluebells and blossom.
On the back of the card the artist, Karen Cater, has written about this festival and how it fits into the Wheel of the Year.
