Spirit Boards or Ouija Boards have a long and fascinating history. Although they may be used to communicate with the spirits, they are also collected as decorative works of art.
This design features the artwork Aracnafaria by the fantasy artist Anne Stokes. An alluring gothic fairy stands, lit by moonlight, in front of an old stone window. Her red wings appear as though they have been made from stained glass. Her spider companions are weaving their webs to entrap any who are lured in to their doom.
The Spirit Board has all the traditional elements – the number 0-9, the alphabet and the words ‘Yes’, ‘No’ and ‘Goodbye’. On the back is a poem, see the picture below to read it. a planchette (used to point) is included and this is decorated with a red butterfly.
The board is made from cork and the back and front are illustrated in colour. It measures 30.5cm x 39cm and comes in an illustrated box. An informative leaflet is inside the box, giving instructions on how to use a spirit board and also some of its history.
IMPORTANT The Spirit Board is not a toy, please use it responsibly.
